Dog Rescue - Crabtree Falls

Wintergreen Rescue Squad’s Technical Rescue Team along with mutual aid from Montebello Fire Department and Piney River Fire Department were dispatched for a missing dog that had fell down Crabtree Falls approximately 40-50 feet. Crews arrived on scene and searched for the missing Golden Retriever named Winnie for several hours without any luck. All crews returned to service with the intention of doing a media blitz to get the word out to be on the lookout for the missing dog. Crews were just about to leave the area when Nelson County Dispatch reported that a hiker had their eyes on the missing dog at milepost 0.7 that was trying to cross over the water. The team was called back to the falls and crews worked to get the dog safely back on the trail. Fortunately, the dog was safely returned to the owner with only minor injuries and in good health. Units on scene were Wintergreen Rescue Squad 1, Response 9, Response 62, Chief 62, Montebello Attack 71, Brush 73, Chief 70, and several member from Piney River Fire Department including Chief 20.
